HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 24

Resolving that the facility known as Tamarack The Best of West Virginia be renamed the Robert C. Byrd Complex.

Whereas, The Honorable Robert C. Byrd, United States Senator, of Sophia, Raleigh County, West Virginia, has held more legislative offices than has any other individual in the history of West Virginia; and
Whereas, Senator Byrd has served longer in the U.S. Senate than has anyone else in West Virginia's history; and
Whereas, Senator Byrd was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1946 and reelected in 1948; was elected to the West Virginia Senate in 1950; was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1952, and reelected in 1954 and 1956; and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1958 and reelected in 1964, 1970, 1976, 1982, 1988, and 1994; and
Whereas, Senator Byrd has received the highest numerical majority (290,701) in a statewide contested election, and the highest number of votes (566,359) of any West Virginian; and
Whereas, Senator Byrd has served as Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, a member of the Committee on Armed Services and Committee on Rules and Administration, Secretary of the Senate Democratic Conference, Majority Whip (Assistant Majority Leader), Majority Leader, Minority Leader, President pro tempore, and has held more leadership positions in the U.S. Senate than any other Senator of any party in Senate history; and
Whereas, The people of West Virginia are indebted to Senator Byrd for his inspirational leadership and for the many benefits he has brought to this State; and
Whereas, Tamarack The Best of West Virginia is located in Senator Byrd's home county of Raleigh and stands as an architectural landmark and as a symbol of economic development reflecting the character of West Virginia and its people; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the facility currently known as Tamarack The Best of West Virginia be renamed the Robert C. Byrd Complex; and, be it
Further resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Senator Robert C. Byrd.
